The artistic creation in the city of Kastoria during the Byzantine period is continuous and uninterrupted from the 9th to the 19th century with peaks in the 9th to 10th centuries, the second half of the 12th, the second half of the 14th and the first half of the 15th, but also during the Ottoman domination. In fact, the continuous and remarkable artistic production in the fields of paintings, wall paintings and portable icons, in Kastoria, is not observed in other cities of the Byzantine Empire, except to a lesser extent in Verroia and even less in Ohrid.
