About This Item

Here is a rare first edition, first printing of "1066 and All That". "1066 and All That" is a witty and playful take on the history of England. It was written by W. C. Sellar and R. J. Yeatman, with illustrations by John Reynolds. This humorous historical reimagining was first serialized in Punch magazine and later published here for the first time in book form. The book presents English history in a comically exaggerated and simplified manner, using humour, wordplay, and absurd interpretations of historical events to entertain readers while highlighting certain key moments in English history. While it may not be a scholarly historical reference, "1066 and All That" is beloved for its clever wordplay and humorous interpretation of history. It's considered a classic in the genre of humorous history writing and has been reprinted to infinity ever since. Fine / Good Condition. Pictorial dust jacket over red cloth and gilt lettering. Black and white illustrations throughout. Binding and hinges are firm. Pages are lightly tanned with slightly more pronounced tanning to end papers. Boards have very light edge-wear with only minor bumping to corners. Unclipped jacket has some edge-wear with minor loss to corners and more pronounced loss to spine ends
