About This Item
1686 Iconoclast History Byzantine Orthodox Iconoclasm Catholic Schism Maimbourg
Louis Maimbourg was an important 17th-century French historian known for his studies in Calvinism, Catholicism and Jesuitism, as well as histories of famous popes. Though, perhaps one of his most important works was history of the Iconoclast controversy from its earliest occurrences in 8th-century Byzantine disputes. Maimbourg's 'History of the Hersey of Iconoclasts' is often considered the best work on Iconoclasm from the 17th-century.
