SUMMARY:
•Pride and Prejudice is a romance novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story charts the emotional development of the protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who learns the error of making hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between the superficial and the essential. The comedy of the writing lies in the depiction of manners, education, marriage, and money during the British Regency period.

BACKGROUND:
•Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British land gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favorable social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism.

PROVENANCE (Bookplate):
•Colonel Fulke Southwell Greville-Nugent, 1st Baron Greville (17 February 1821 – 25 January 1883), known as Fulke Greville until 1866, was an Irish Liberal politician.

CONDITION:
•Conditions are Good/Very Good. Some wear to edges, bookplate to one (inner front board) Fulke Southwell Greville, first few pages of Vol.I a bit delicate/taut, some delicate edges, some blemishing throughout, correct pencil numbers of chapters written along side roman numeral numbers to vol.II/could erase, hinges/text blocks are very good!
