An interesting address that compares the Civil War with the Second Boer War and how calamitous it would have been had Lee not surrendered but followed Jefferson Davis's vision of the Civil War having "entered upon a new phase. . . . Relieved from the necessity of guarding particular points, our army will be free to move from point to point, to strike the enemy in detail far from his base" (qtd on p. 4). Uncommon.
