Illustrated from photographs of Bakersfield area oil fields showing early wooden derricks, including frontispiece; folding map showing the property of the Prosperity Oil Company and the "West Side Oil Belt of Kern County". Illustrated wrappers. 8 1/4" x 5". Included are four(4) blank stock subscription forms for the purchase of shares in the company, two blank Company envelopes, a fragile clipping from The San Francisco Daily Post of February 13, 1901, describing "An Oil Man's Opinion", and a 4 page fragile folded copy of the December 21, 1900 Nevada City "The Herald" newspaper featuring a front page story about the Prosperity Oil Company as well as local stories and a number of advertisements with great period fonts and graphics. Prosperity Oil Company was organized in Nevada City (Nevada County Seat) in the heart of the northern California gold country. The listed officers of the Company were prominent Nevada County residents of the time. OCLC/World Cat lists but three copies of this piece. The prospectus is rubbed from handling, but Very Good or better overall. The pages of the newspaper have some holes at the folds and the envelopes are sealed with age.
