Collection of early Philadelphia Orchestra programs and broadsheets, to include: 1.) a four-page 6" x 9" program for a series of descriptive lecture concerts, Fritz Scheel conducting, Nov. 28 through Dec. 12, 1905; 2.) a 6" x 9" broadsheet advertising a 1911 concert, under the leadership of Carl Pohlig, featuring Ernestine Schumann-Heink singing an aria from Gounod’s "Sapho" and selections from Liszt and Schubert; 3.) 1909 and 1911 Philadelphia Orchestra Request Ballots, traditionally given to orchestra patrons in order to make their music selections for season’s final program; 4.) a 5" x 7" notice to patrons that, due to popular request, conductor Carl Pohlig has replaced two Strauss pieces with Weber’s Oberon Overture and Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture, in what was intended to be solely a Richard Strauss program in an upcoming concert; 5.) a twelve-page 6" x 9" Philadelphia Orchestra Program for the complete 1913-1914 season, Leopold Stokowski conducting, with Stokowski portrait photo on the front and two-page centerfold cameo photos of seventeen of the season’s featured guest artists. 6.) a six-page 5 1/4" x 6 1/2" program for the April 20, 1909 Mendelssohn Festival to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the composer’s birth with performances of "The First Walpurgis Night" and "The Hymn Of Praise" under the direction of William Wallace Gilchrist and Henry Gordon Thunder and sung by an engulfing Grand Chorus of 750 combined voices drawn from the Choral Society Of Philadelphia, Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, Schubert Choir of York, PA, and Church Choral Society of Reading, PA. 7.) an 18-page 5" x 6" program for a Second Private Concert by the Orpheus Club, joined by the Philadelphia Orchestra, with Dr. Horatio Parker conducting, at the Academy Of Music, Saturday, Feb. 6, 1909; 8.) two broadsheets (5 1/2" x 9 1/2" and 6" x 9 1/2") giving notice of a Benefit Concert for notable composer, conductor, and music educator, Emil Gastel, March 23, 1911 at Griffith Hall, 1420 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, featuring numerous distinguished artists of the period, including Florence Hinkle, Russell King Miller, John Sylvanus Thompson, and Thomas a’Becket; and 9.) a four-page 5 1/2" x 6 3/4" program for a song recital by operatic baritone David Bispham at Wellesley College, April 27, 1906. All items Very Good to Very Good Plus. Stokowski program has a vertical crease and penciled margin notes, and two broadsheets have a very small corner chip in the blank margin area, not affecting text or graphics.
