The author employed innovative techniques to focus on the lives of twelve central characters. This trilogy provides the reader with a description of life in America in the early part of the 20th century. With illustrations by Reginald Marsh. The U.S.A. trilogy was named to the Modern Library list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. An entry in the Franklin Library's 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series, issued in conjunction with the Bicentennial of the American Revolution. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. Publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet about this work is included. --- Bound in full dark red bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges (AEG) all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Brown silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- An about-Near Fine copy: bright, tightly-bound and newish, though with slight sunning to edges of moire endpapers and slight scratching to textblock edge gilding.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (16), 489 pages .
