David Ben-Gurion (1883-1973) is considered a preeminent figure in the history of modern Israel. As the voice of the Jewish people in Palestine during the British-mandate, David Ben-Gurion led the Jewish community there from 1935 until the 1948 establishment of the State of Israel. Ben-Gurion served as Israel's Prime Minister from 1948-1963 [with one short break]. The photograph was signed by David Ben-Gurion in blue ink, writing his name in both Hebrew & English. It accompanies a TLS on Knesset letterhead, dated March 12, 1969, addressed to Baron William T. Frary von Blomberg. Frary von Blomberg was a renowned advisor on international relations to governments in exile, who specialized in helping create dialog between religions, the protection of ethnic minorities and Christian ecumenism..
