Manuel Panselinos, the painter of Protaton moves until today between myth and reality. The season operates (14th century), is a time of conflict, in which, while the state is declining politically and economically, the letters and the arts reach the highest point of the edge, drawing the same time elements of the ancient tradition.Panselinos work, as preserved in Protaton, is representative of a whole era of Palaiologian and the Macedonian "School", the center of which was Thessaloniki. The intellectual and artistic life of the city reaches the time, at high levels, while becoming the leading role in the entire Balkan region. The work of Manuel Panselinos, maintains a rare quality in the performance of color, the organic composition of the body and the psychological rendering of the figures, elements which give the style a drama interwoven with realistic tones.
