About This Item

Women’s Temperance Publishing Association, Chicago, circa 1890; Run of thirteen sequentially numbered 4" x 5.25" abstinence pamphlets of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, pointing out the numerous ways in which alcohol consumption does damage to both the individual and to society, each pamphlet authored by a distinguished figure in early temperance, suffrage, and peace movements, including W.C.T.U. founder Frances E. Willard; Mary Lowe Dickinson; Josephine R. Nichols; T.D. Crothers, M.D.; Mrs. J.K. Barney; and former Kansas governor John Pierce St. John, who was the Prohibition Party presidential nominee in 1884. Titles include "Some New Facts In Alcoholic Heredity, "In The Bushel Or In The Jug," "Some Methods Of Prevention," "The Law Of Habit," "Pledge Keeping," "Is Beer A Temperance Drink?", "A Crusade Against Beer," etc. Also part of the group are two pamphlets from W.C.T.U.’s Department Of Peace and Arbitration, outlining the organization’s goals, motto, methods, etc., plus instruction in how to establish and maintain habits of peace in the home, which will then generalize to other areas of one’s life. All pamphlets originals, not reproductions. Fine. Clean, crisp, bright, corners sharp, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind. A rare W.C.T.U. archive in exceptional condition.
