New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Co., 1948. First Edition, First Printing. . Cloth. Near Fine/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition, 1st Printing. HC 8vo in red cloth. Near FRiome book in Fair clipped DJ, nows in clear protective cover./Fair. Soft spine tips, remains of tape where DJ had been taped to pastedowns (note, NOT ex-lib!), owner stamp front endpaper; DJ scraped and heavily chipped at spine (top 1/3 of the spine and heel), tape remains both flaps. Book tight, relatively square, interior unmarked. History of the English alphabet in 254pp. of gorgeous calligraphy in dramatic red and black. LAID-IN is interesting 1964 newspaper article on the Initial Teaching Alphabet of 44 letters, invented by M.P. Sir Isaac Pitman and then proposed for introduction into kindergarten classes. Relatively uncommon in First Printing.
