About This Item

New York: N/A. 1878. First page has a chip to top edge, not affecting text. Otherwise, VG. The letter is written in a very readable, impeccable script. ; A fascinating and well-written 30 page letter to a Mr. Conant, New York 1878. Mr. Conant (aparently Mr. Charles F. Conant) has just resigned his position from a secretarial office in Washington D. C. (Assistant Secretary of the Treasury? ) The letter-writer, whose signature we cannot decipher, appears to be a person of some importance. The writer details the political climate of the time and the letter is extremely well written and informational. "The agitation of the Silver Bill is perplexing many...our bankers are completely demoralized, our business interest paralyzed, and the all absorbing question is, what under GodÕs Heaven Congress will do next...." "Thank you for your invitation to the Paris Exposition...I suppose the American Industries will be well represented...." .
