About This Item
2nd printing. "Born in England, Guy Lawrence came to Canada with his father, as a young man in 1898. After two years of working at different mining camps in Atlin, Guy Lawrence joined the Yukon Telegraph Line, that was just being ompleted. From the beginning of the Century up to World War One, Guy worked from isolated wilderness cabins, relaying and repairing the telegraph line. After serving overseas in the war, Guy ran the telegraph office in Stewart, B.C. Guy Lawrence remained in Stewart for 26 years, retiring in 1946. This book is a personal account of the diaries of Guy Lawrence and a fascinating record of one of B.C.'s earliest communication links with the wilderness of it's northern communities."
