About This Item
Sydney, Crows Nest: Allen & Unwin, 2012. 1st ed.. Paperback octavo, very good condition, black & white photos, covers little creased, pages lightly toned, minor edgewear. 231 pp. Lucy Frost describes a boatload of Scottish women convicts and their children who arrived in Hobart in 1838. They were initially housed in the Female Factory, nestling in the shadow of Mt Wellington. They were sent to work as unpaid servants in the houses of settlers. Many women survived the convict system and found a good place in the community once they were freed. Others continued to be plagued by errors and disasters until death.
