Fair. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. x, 154pp, 100 illustrations by photographic reproduction, 56 drawings, 13 plans, 7 colour plates (inc. frontispiece), colour map in pocket on rear pastedown. Quarter-bound with black cloth-covered spine over red paper-covered boards; gilt titles on front and spine; top edge sprayed red. 4to. A large and heavy volume requiring an additional charge for overseas delivery. Boards lightly soiled and scuffed. Spine ends heavily rubbed with cloth fraying. Corners heavily rubbed and rounded with paper worn through. Text block edges lightly tanned, soiled and foxed (affecting page margins), top edge dusty. Volume quite loose; gutter stretched at half-title page (almost detached). Foxing throughout (including pull out map), heaviest towards top edge and beginning and end of volume. With an additional chapter on 'monastic life and buildings' by A Hamilton Thompson.
