Red full-cloth boards, gilt cover and spine titles, design, moderate shelf wear, discoloration. Flourishing cover titles among decorative vignettes, collage design of grand hotel and travelling steamer. Pages near fine, clean; no writing. Marbled text block at all sides. String-bind, fine; hinges intact. Illustrated throughout with early photo plates, lively devices and vignettes throughout. Front and back pictorial endpapers in rich light brownish purple. Front five and fourteen back pages feature full-page advertisement plates for hotels, costumiers, touring ships, etc. and for the Home Journal, of which author Morris Phillips wrote and edited. Many feature wonderful imagery of hotel architecture and landscapes. Near very good rarity of fine book craftsmanship from Brentano's of New York. "Travel is the great source of true wisdom" - Beaconfield. This volume is a wonderfully enchanting time-capsule of sketches in travelling to majestically designed destinations.
