About This Item

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1954. Mordecai Richler (1931-2001) is recognized as perhaps the finest Canadian author of the mid-20th Century. This is his first book, an uncommon title. Set in post-WWII Spain with a cast of expatriots, it has a very left-bank feel. This is a Near Fine copy of the First American Edition. Although published in the same year as the English edition, it is much less common. Black cloth binding, with spine lettering in black, red, and gilt. Some very minor wear at the edges, else Fine. Clean text; 246 pages. is bright but has some minor wear at the edges. The very "period" modernist dustjacket is complete and unclipped but has overall soiling, some edgewear, a small chip on the rear, and a 1-1/2" tear to the lower spine. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good Minus.
