Education-award bookplate on ffep, else unmarked. Some pages a little foxed; minor soiling. 25 photographs on plates; several in-text illustrations; fold-out map at rear. Index. 8vo. xii, 348 pages. The account of an eight-month trek across Persia, undertaken in 1903 by author following his resignation from the Royal Field Artillery in India. At the time this was published in 1907, the author, Eliot Crawshay-Williams (1879-1962), was Winston Churchill's assistant private secretary at the Colonial Office. From 1910 to 1913, he served as MP for Leicester and was the parliamentary private secretary to then Chancellor of the Exchequer, David Lloyd George.
