About This Item

Providence RI: Brown University, 2002. Pamphlet. Program, about thirty pages, densely printed and densely annotated by an attendee, softbound in 8.5x5.5 inch wraps in "zine" format (untrimmed fore-edge), cover and most pages covered in barely legible red-ink pen holograph. The comments are activist-oriented and smart. Laid in are a plat-map to the Brown campus, and a flyer promoting a book by a conference leader (see below). A casually handled copy with several lengthy precis of panel episodes. FYI, the book flyer is for John McCumber's "Time in the Ditch - American Philosophy in the McCarthy Era"; the attendee's notes provide detail. Attendee may have been a panelist also; we suspect our own local professor, Anatole Anton, R.I.P, whose papers we have been encountering in-shop. The McCumber thesis posits that Joseph McCarthy's short brutal reign in Congress affected not only politics but also higher-education philosophy departments across the U.S., and not just for a year or two, but lingers today.
