About This Item

London: William Pickering, 1833. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Recent quarter calf and marbled paper covered boards; in better than very good shape: bright and tight with no knocks, wear or snags. Contents equally sound, with no pen-marks and not from a library so no such stamps or labels. Size: 215mm x 140mm. Collation: pp. xvi, 375. Second of the Bridgewater Treatises. Attempts to find harmony between science and religion, arguing God has adapted wildlife, rocks and the environment to suit Man's needs. In the period before Darwin, this was characteristic of the natural theology that held sway in the scientific world and Kidd, professor of medicine at Oxford, here corrals some of the latest biological research from Cuvier, Buckland and others to support his case. Tidy book in very presentable condition.
