Eyre & Spottiswoode for His Majesty's Stationery Office, London, first edition, 1912. The edition was of 500 copies. Contemporary half-calf and moire boards, gilt spine-title, 4to,. 374 pages in double-column format. Very approximately 7,500 entries. A scarce and very important bibliographical source for early naval history.This volume comprises "all printed books in the Library bearing on Naval History" and is arranged in a detailed classification scheme, the top-level headings being : Lists of the Navy and Army (pages 5-36); Biography (37-68); History (69-212); Policy and Administration (213-310); Strategy and Tactics (311-322); Mercantile Marine, Communications and Commerce (323-359); Periodical publications of Naval interest (360); Parliamentary Papers - Inquiries into Naval Affairs (361-370). The classification scheme index is at pp 371-374. Entries give (where known) : author, title, edition, pages, indication of illustrations, format, place and year of publication, library shelfmark. Further parts of the Catalogue were projected to cover Naval and General Sciences, Geography, and remaining parliamentary and periodical publications, but the project was a casualty of the first world war and this was the only part published. Stamps on the front free endpapers and a "Ministry of Defence Library Services - Withdrawn" stamp on the title-page. Bookbinder's ticket of Jas. Truscott & Co., contractors for bookbinding to HM Govt., on rear pastedown endpaper. Leather worn along joints and extremities, with some loss at head and tail of spine. Contents slightly agetoned but otherwise Good.
