About This Item

La Jolla, CA: Prospect Avenue Press, 1969. First Edition, 4th Printing of 1979 . Soft cover. Near Fine/None as Issued. Text/BRAND NEW. Illustrated soft cover/NF. PO label to front cover verso w/inked date to fEP. History of the Arizona Territorial Prison established in 1879 and closed its doors in 1909. Now a living museum and part of the Yuma State Prison Historic Park, once housed inmates that were very much a part of western frontier life. This volume examined archival records to produce six chapters: I, Era & Area; II, Construction & Development; III, Administration; IV, Prisoners: Apache Renegades to Bank President; V, Escapes & Breaks; and, VI, The End of an Era and a Prison. Unique in being a community "enterprise", prison gates were open to townspeople to both sell and buy at the Bazaars.
