Mottled leather with triple-rule border, dentelles, marbled endpapers, edges gilted over red stain, giving a coppery effect. All text pages are bright, straight and clean. The gilted edges are a bit dulled, as is the gilt-stamped spine. Corners bumped and worn; there is a gilt rule on the very edge of the boards, and it is rubbed or broken in numerous places. Overall vg+ despite the wear on the binding. Engraved frontis and title vignette; different from the vignette in the Valade-Cazin edition published later the same year. A poem outlining the author's philosophy of outdoor design, this book was terribly popular and went through many printings and translations very quickly. It was a major influence on British garden design which can still be detected today. 143 pp. French text.

Fan book structure with tie closure at the handle/spine. In stiff green paper open-ended envelope. Signed and numbered by the artist. Each book varies slightly because of the handcoloring. Goodale continues her documentation of imperiled fauna with Maine's Alpine Marsh Violet. The viola palustris in Maine is "critically imperiled because of extreme rarity or vulnerability to extirpation."

This book contains a collection of articles, poetry, and music for family entertainment. It is illustrated with twelve steel plate engravings and also with ten hand-colored portraits of flowers. The book has some foxing and water staining inside, but the color plates are clean and crisp. A new cloth spine has been added , and the covers show some wear. The color plates of flowers are quite beautiful.
