About This Item
Ligouri, MO: Ligouri Publications, 1983. Pamphlet. Near Fine. 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches. 24 page saddle-stitched pamphlet. St. Alphonsus Ligouri (1696-1787) organized the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists), devoted to mission work, in 1732. The Congregation flourished, its mission expanded, and by 1832, it had made tentative missionary efforts to the United States. The Congregation flourished in the United States, and in 1875 the original American province was divided, the eastern under the name of the province of Baltimore and the western as the province of St. Louis, which embraced the houses of St. Louis, New Orleans, Chicago and Chatawa (initially selected for the novitiate and house of studies for the province of St. Louis, but subsequently abandoned. Ligouri was canonized in 1839 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871. Ligouri Publications publishes resources that seek to deepen the ongoing conversion of the people of God while furthering the mission of the Redemptorists. This pamphlet is an explanation of conscience according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and a popular guide to improving disposition toward confession and aid in the preparation for the sacrament of penance.
