UK,Royal 8vo HB+s/case,1st edn thus.FINE+/FINE.Bright,crisp,clean, plain gilt paper-covered card slipcase; with some minimal shelf-wear, rubbing and scuffing to all edges and all corners - but no major nicks, splits or tears present.Bright,crisp,clean,Royal 8vo (239 x 161 x 34mm, HB+s/case,vii-xixpp+3-329pp [paginated] includes an introduction by Tim Heald,Editor's preface,20 stories [originally published in 'The Strand Magazine' between 1892 to 1949] each with full page,bw line illustration by David Eccles; there are also two smaller drawings and a b/w illustrated frntis - all by David Eccles.Plus [unpaginated] half-title with b/w illus to its verso,title page,and contents list/table.Bright,crisp,clean, sharp-cornered,publisher's original full green series binding with a design in black and gold by Eccles - rear view of a male figure with an aloft-held fire-brand in front of natives' spears to front and smaller circular illustrated vignette to rear bd and immaculate plain dark green eps.Spine/backstrip inevitably but lightly sunned/faded so slightly discoloured,with the title+publisher lettered in bright,crisp,stamped black ink within bright,crisp stamped gilt label-boxes on said spine/backstrip. Top edges coloured green,fore-edges white,bright and clean; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread apart from my own collation.Set in Linottro Ehrhardt (11-pt) with Gill Shadow for display.Typeset by Fakenham Photosetting,printed and bound by the Bath Press,Avon.
