A comprehensive survey of the metal industries of the Aegean in the Early and Middle Bronze ages. The first part presents a typological classification of several thousand metal objects of the period and discusses their chronology. Part two examines in detail the metal working techniques used and developed in the Aegean during the third and early second millenniums B.C. Part three traces the historical development of Aegean metallurgy and assesses the extent of external influence on it, the value of metal work as an indication of culture and cultural contact, and the impact of metallurgy on early Aegean civilization. The remainder of the book contains details of the analysis of over 200 Aegean metal objects and a catalogue of Aegean metalwork containing over 3,000 entries. - from the dj flap.
