Hardcover with vellum (or vellum-like) spine; boards covered in marbled paper; top edge gilt; other edges deckled; 211 pages; "numerous facsimiles of Florentine woodcuts; limited edition 1393/1500; signed on colophon page by Bruce Rogers who "arranged" this edition. Book in very good condition: spine is darkened and spotted; binding is otherwise excellent; slight spotting to top gilt edge; straight; hinges strong; very sparse spotting to pages. Slipcase in very good condition: some toning and scuffing; no splits..
Synopsis
Aesop, known only for the genre of fables ascribed to him, was a slave in the mid-sixth century BC in Greece. He is assumed to have written many of these curious moral parables, and they have been added to and translated into many languages since they were first collected.
