From an impoverished Colorado childhood, to her final years subject to the scans of McCarthyism, Agnes Smedley's life was both dramatic and intense: birth control pioneer, social journalist, freedom fighter and associate of the early Berlin Freudians, she was a part of the of the most important social and political revolutions of the 20th century.
