Dust Jacket Included. 4to. 30cm, 189p., with 82 plates primarily in colour, 22 figures, bibliography, brown cloth, gilt titles, in illustrated jacket, fine in good to verygood jacket (ds25). - An impressively illustrated study of the Buddhist art, dating from 200 B.C. through to 7 century A.D., discovered in 1817 in Hyderabad, India. The art consists of fresco paintings covering the walls in about thirty caves. The author photographed the frescos after restoration had been carried out by the Indian government enabling many details to be shown in colour for the first time.
