About This Item
New York, New York, USA: History Channel, 1989. B4 - An NTSC VHS color and black and white 43 minute, 7 second ex-library video tape in good+ to very good- condition in a plastic clamshell case in very good condition with a black and white artwork paper sleeve in very good condition with a light label stain on the spine. This is a documentary film about the Alamo Scouts, a special unit of the US Army Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II. The documentary features a few of the surviving Alamo Scouts as well as the Alamo Scouts Association historian Lance Q. Zedric and Army Historian, LTC (Ret) George B. Eaton. The documentary film on this video tape was produced for the History Channel's 'History's Mysteries' series and originally aired in 2001. The Alamo Scouts unit was formed under the command of Lieutenant General Walter Krueger and designed and developed as an all volunteer elite unit made up of small teams who would operate independently deep behind enemy lines with the primary mission of gathering intelligence. The unit received its name because of Krueger's association with San Antonio and his admiration for the defenders of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. This unit is notable for losing none of its members during the war as well as its support in liberating Allied prisoners both in New Guinea as well and through their participation in the liberation raid on Cabanatuan Prison Camp in the Philippines. The Cabanatuan raid has most recently been described in 'Ghost Soldiers: The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission' by Hampton Sides who went on to work as the creative consultant on the notable PBS American Experience series documentary film about the raid titled 'Bataan Rescue'. 'Alamo Scouts' was hosted by Arthur Kent and narrated by David Ackroyd, directed by Richard L. Schmidt, written by James Grant Goldin and Susan Michaels, produced by Melody Shafir, and edited by Lawrence Law James and Lou LaProcido. 43 minutes, 7 seconds. Satisfaction guaranteed.. VHS Video Tape. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
