[The Author] 1981. Hard Cover. 170 p., illus. From 1931-42 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the ALCAN Highway, an incredibly challenging road, from a Canadian railhead in western Alberta to Fairbanks, Alaska. The author, a Harvard botanist, was part of a botanical-geological team that surveyed resources along the highway. This book, begun at the time, was revived when the Alaskan pipeline was being built.
