Encadernação do editor com a lombada em pele com ferros a ouro, pastas revestidas em papel grená com ferros a ouro formando esquadrias e com o título da obra e o editor rodeados por louros e encimados por um capacete de guerra ao centro das pastas anteriores.

Profusamente ilustrados no texto a preto e branco e a cores com fotografias e em extratexto com pinturas a cores sobre papel couché colado sobre folhas de cartolina com as legendas e um grande mapa desdobrável a cores da frente ocidental.

Magnífica obra de grande beleza gráfica e artística que é uma antologia das reportagens fotográficas publicadas pela revista francesa “L’Illustration” durante a 1ª Guerra, de Agosto de 1914 até 1920, incluindo a Conferência de Paz, constituindo uma excelente história da 1ª Guerra Mundial.

Contém diversas referências e fotografias sobre a participação portuguesa na guerra: na página 673, foto de Bernardino Machado, Presidente da República saúda os soldados portugueses por ocasião da partida e do primeiro navio de transporte com tropas portuguesas que chegou ao porto francês de Brest; na página 789, visita de Bernardino Machado, Presidente da República, e Poincaré, Primeiro Ministro francês, a Verdun e Nesle em 18 de Outubro de 1917; na página 840, seis fotografias sobre o golpe de Sidónio Pais em Dezembro de 1917 e a partida para o exílio de Bernardino Machado, Presidente da República; na página 1255, uma fotografia do destacamento português no desfile da vitória. Na página 803 inclui fotografias relativas à entrada do Brasil na Guerra.

Binding: Editor’s quarter calf with gilt tools on spine and boards covered with dark red paper, with gilt frames and the title of the work and editor’s name framed by laurel branches topped by a war helmet also gilt tooled and positioned at the centre of the front boards.

Profusely illustrated in text with black and white and colour photos and colour paintings hors-text printed on glaze paper mounted on cardboard sheets with captions. It also contains a large folded colour map of the western front.

A magnificent work of great graphic and artistic beauty that gathers the photographic reports published by the French magazine “L’Illustration” during the First World War, from August 1914 through 1920, including the Peace Conference, thus being an excellent historical account of the First World War.

It includes several references and photos of the Portuguese participation in the war: on page 673, the photo of Bernardino Machado, President of the Portuguese Republic salutes the Portuguese soldiers and the photo of the first ship carrying Portuguese troops that arrived to the French harbour of Brest; on page 789, the visit of Bernardino Machado together with the French Prime Minister, Pointcaré, to Verdun and Nesle on the 18th of October 1917; on page 840, six photos of the coup by Sidónio Pais in December 1917, and the departure of Bernardino Machado to exile; on page 1255, a photo of the Portuguese deployed troops at the victory parade. Page 803 contains pictures related to the entering of Brazil in the War.
