1894. Fine. 1894, 26x19cm, 1 album. - Album regroupant au total 49 photographies (15,5x10,5cm) en tirages albuminés d'époque, contrecollées sur carton fort et montées sur onglets. Tous les clichés sont légendés à la main en marge basse. Trois autres albums, contenant 196 photographies, ont été vendus aux enchères lors de la dispersion de la collection du vicomte par ses héritiers en 2003. L'album contient 49 photos, dont 29 de scènes de villages avec personnages et animaux (éléphants, nilgaï, chameaux...), 8 de vues du campement, 5 de personnages, dont un étonnant fakir aux dreadlocks vertigineuses, 4 de la caravane et 3 de paysages. Reliure de l'époque en demi chagrin vert sapin, dos à quatre nerfs ornés de filets et caissons à froid, titre à l'or dans le deuxième caisson, plats de papier façon cartonnage présentant de multiples encadrements à froid, le premier frappé en son centre d'un titre à l'or. Quelques frottements, coins légèrement émoussés dont l'un de manière un peu plus importante, quelques petites taches blanches. Quelques cartons détachés. Cet album a été constitué par le vicomte Edmond de Poncins, naturaliste et aventurier descendant de Montaigne, lors de son voyage au Rajasthan. Ces photographies ont été prises à Ulwar (district d'Alwar, au Rajasthan), où le photographe se rendit en 1894, à la suite de son expédition au pays des Kandjoutes (aujourd'hui Vallée de la Hunza) l'année précédente. Cette importante expédition, qui débuta en mars 1893 et fut facilitée par les officiers russes, lui valut la médaille d'argent de la société de géographie. All of the shots are captioned by hand in the lower margin. Three other albums, containing 196 photographs, were sold at auction when the Viscount's collection was put up for sale by his heirs in 2003. The album contains 49 photos, of which 29 are village scenes with people and animals (elephants, nilgai, camels, etc.), 8 views of the camp, 5 of people, including a surprising Fakir with high dreadlocks, 4 of the caravan and 3 landscapes. Contemporary binding in half green shagreen, spine decorated with blind tooled fillets and bands, gilt title in the second band, paper boards with several blind tooled frames, the first stamped in the centre with a gilt title. Some rubbing, slightly worn corners, one of which is more significant, some small white spots. Some loose boards. This album was put together by Viscount Edmond de Poncins, naturalist and adventurer descendant of Montaigne, during his trip to Rajasthan. These photographs were taken in Ulwar (the Alwar district in Rajasthan), where the photographer visited in 1894, following his expedition to the State of Kanjut (today the Hunza Valley), the previous year.
