The successful military leader set out from Greece and conquered much of present-day Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Egypt and the Levant. His achievements have led to much mystique about the man, and in this work, the author seeks to get ". . .beyond the romance and myths . . .and puts the man back into his historical setting." With 16 color plates and 100 b&w illustrations, showing images of sculptures, paintings, mosaics, geographic locations, coins, jewelry and at least one map. Includes an introduction by Lord Chalfont. This work first published in the UK by George Weidenfeld and Nicolson Limited. --- In full blue paper-covered boards with titling gilt-stamped on spine. Jacket features sculpture of Alexander mounted on his charger. --- An well-preserved, tightly-bound, clean copy though with slight chafing to edges of covers.
