The German translation of Botting's Humboldt and the Cosmos. // "Douglas Botting (1924-2019) was a British author and explorer who wrote extensively about natural history, travel, and exploration. He was born on December 24, 1924, in Bournemouth, England, and served in the British Army during World War II. Botting's most famous work is probably his biography of the German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, titled "Humboldt and the Cosmos." The book was first published in 1973 and has since become a classic of scientific biography. It explores Humboldt's life and work, including his pioneering expeditions to South America and his groundbreaking ideas about the interconnectedness of nature. In addition to "Humboldt and the Cosmos," Botting wrote numerous other books, including "The Pirates" and "Islands in the Sky," which explored the history and culture of remote islands around the world. He was also a prolific contributor to magazines and newspapers, including National Geographic and The Times. / Humboldt, Alexander von, 1769-1859.
