About This Item

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1970. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo. [6], vii-lxv, [3], 286, [6] pp. Quarter light black cloth over darker black cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Price of $7.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. With an introductory essay by Walter Kaufmann (Schacht's dissertation advisor). Inscribed by Schacht (to a man we presume is his brother), the inscription reads: "For Jim, with love. Dick Nov. 16, 1970". Jim Schacht has written his name and address on the free front endpaper. Alienation was Schacht's dissertation at Princeton University. Honderich 799-800. Schacht was famous for his scholarship on Nietzsche and his work on other Continental philosophers such as Hegel. He advocated for these philosophers and their work to be included and studied in the canon of Western philosophy. A fascinating association copy of Schacht's first published work. A Very Good book with minor warping to the boards and toning to the gutters; dust jacket is Very Good with traces of edge wear and rubbing and minor toning.
