About This Item

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1946. First Edition, First Printing. First edition first printing with "First Edition" stated on the copyright page. Published by Harcourt, Brace and Company, New York, 1946. Winner of the 1947 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. 8vo, 464 pages. With the original first state dust jacket.

The dust jacket is in poor condition. Chipping and creasing to the flap folds and spine. Tape repairs to the verso and front at the spine. The jacket has been trimmed a half-inch at the edge and exposes the book. The book is in fair condition. Tape remnants present at the top and bottom of the boards. The front board is cracked at the hinge at the half-title page. The paste-downs are missing some paper where tape was removed. Previous owner's label on the front endpaper with general soiling to the paper. Paper adhesions and soiling to the rear endpaper. The textblock is largely clean with a few instances of scattered soiling.
