Front hinge weak and reglued. DJ has slight soiling. Minor edge soiling. Heavy item. Has a United States Naval Institute bookplate on fep believed signed by John Lyman (acquired from the Lyman family). The author served five years in the Royal Navy during World War II. His experience covered four of the war-built classes: a "Hunt" class destroyer in the English Channel and to Gibraltar; a Patrol Craft Escort, from Chicago to Bermuda; a "Captain class frigate (built in the USA), in North Atlantic support groups, the Normandy invasion, and the Scheldt; then a second, destined for Singapore but returned to the US Navy in New York; lastly an 'Algerine' class fleet minesweeper. He is a naval historian who has written many articles and a book on American destroyer escorts.
