About This Item

Newbury-port: John Mycall, 1777. 12mo.; in the publisher's printed wrappers, crudely stitched at the spine; [24] pages. With wear to the titlepage, and a closed tear with minor loss. ~~An almanack from Newbury-port during the Revolutionary-era. In addition to the calendar for the year, we note in the calendar many references to recent events -- March 5, Boston Massacre; March 8, Stamp Act Repealed, 1766; December 16, Tea Destroyed. Important events of our history noted along with Lady Day, Ascension Day, and the Beheading of John the Baptist. With an Account of Some Rarities of Nature, and, interestingly "The Method of Rearing Turkeys Successfully Practised Among the Swedes' [make the chick swallow a whole peppercorn] and a Receipt to make Wine as good as most that is imported. The compiler Daniel George issued New England almanacs in Massachusetts towns from 1776 to 1787. (Drake 3271; Evans 15306).
