About This Item
Verona: Officina Bodoni // Officinae Bodoni, 1960. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good +. This is one of fifty copies in full golden brown oasis morocco, gilt press mark on the upper cover, top edge gilt. Mardersteig's lengthy (60-page) introduction is followed by Feliciano's treatise on the construction of Roman letters (ca. 1460). The 25 letters are hand-colored in two colors (after the original manuscript) with the corresponding construction grid on facing verso. Mardersteig was fascinated by the career of Feliciano (1433-1479), who started off as a professional caligrapher and lived into the print era, even publishing a volume of Petrarch in Poiano in 1476. Book is fine, free of all markings, binding fresh and flexible. Prospectus laid in, VG+. Slipcase is tight and free of splits, clean except for what looks like a small streak of a coffee drip on the back edge (the part that does not face the shelf). Lovely book. Mardersteig 121. Century for the Century 62
