(1540)-1542, 3 parts in 1 vol. 150; (4), 86; (3), 94 leaves., repeated woodcut printer's mark on 2 title-pages, 43 (some repeated) woodcut illustrations within borders. 65 historiated/ decorated initials (including Janot's white alphabet with thistle especially designed for the Amadis), 18th century calf with gilt spine and two contrasting leather labels. folio. - First part lacks the first two preliminary leaves (incl. title) So begins at aiii); Remaining prelims one leaf with tear in text and one leaf lacks upper outer blank corner; first part partly wormholed in lower margin; title-page. to second part some soiling and old owner's entries; title-page. to third part slightly. dust stained; lower corner of final three leaves of third part restored and small inkstain in outer margin; All three parts occasionally. finger soiled / stained; engraved heraldic bookplate of Ham Court on upper pastedown. Corners and joints professionally and unobtrusively restored. Rare first editions of the first three folios. STC French p.12; Index Aureliensis 104230-104232; Cioranesco 2361, 2363 and 2364; cf. Adams A-869 (2nd book) and A-871 (third book), both printed for Longis; cf. Harvard, French 18 (later edition). The complete work consists of 14 parts and is rarely found complete in 16th century editions. Famous woodcuts, which were widely used by Janot and the other publishers of the subsequent parts and editions of the Amadis for the popular romances that they published. 330 by 210mm (13 by 8¼ inches). Folio. La première partie manque les deux premiers feuillets préliminaires (y compris le titre) commence donc à aiii) ; Prélims restant un in-folio avec déchirure dans le texte et un in-folio manquant le coin supérieur extérieur vierge ; première partie partiellement trouée dans la marge inférieure ; titre de la page. dans la seconde partie quelques salissures et inscriptions de l'ancien propriétaire ; titre de la page. légèrement à la troisième partie. taché de poussière; coin inférieur des trois derniers feuillets du troisième volet restauré et petite tache d'encre dans la marge extérieure ; Les trois parties occasionnellement. doigt souillé / taché; Ex-libris héraldique gravé de Ham Court sur la plaque supérieure. Coins et joints restaurés professionnellement et discrètement. Rares éditions originales des trois premiers in-folios.
