London: Smith, Elder and Co, 1879. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Brown cloth boards with blind stamped and gilt decoration to boards and gilt lettering to spine. Spine is faded. Edges are bumped and there is small damage to top spine. Binding is slightly cocked. Damage and small loss to fep. Hinges are beginning to crack. Foxing to front flyleaf and last page only. Otherwise pages are age tanned with occasional spotting. Very small loss to preface and contents pages. Jefferies' name only credited with initials JF after Preface. Overall a pleasing copy of this first edition of Jefferies' seminal work. 1879
