New York: The Macmillan Company, 1898. Stated third edition, completely revised throughout with additional chapters, 1898. Handsome two volume set in a signed binding by Sotheran & Co., smooth dark blue calf leather with dual spine labels in deep red, raised spine bands with gilt decorated compartments, covers bordered in bilt, all edges marbled, marbled endpapers, gilt tooled top and bottom edges, each volume just under 8 inches tall. Light shelfwear, good joints and hinges, firm text blocks, very minor foxing to blank pages adjacent to endleaves, exquisite personal bookplate of George Clinton Fairchild Williams in each volume, no other markings. The bookplate depicts a vew of magnificent gardens outside a library window with symbolic images at top, signed S.L.S. 1924 [Sidney Lawton Smith, American designer and engraver (1845-1929)]. . Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
