Boston: The Atlantic Monthly Press; 1918; Second Edition [June 1919 Preface] [5.75x8.5"] Brown paper covers with half beige cloth, five ribs on spine with dark brown lettering on paper label, top edge gilt, others uncut; xxi, 355 pp., frontispiece color caricature of Thackeray and Dickens, 91 illustrations and images in text and separate plates, Index [not included in first edition]; Shelf wear to edges and covers, all corners bumped, spine slightly darken. Overall condition is Very Good. Alfred Edward Newton [1864-1940] was an American author, publisher, and avid book collector. He is best known for his book Amenities of Book Collecting [1918] which sold over 25,000 copies.
