Tan cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt, viii, 142 pp. plus 99 pages of photographs of tomahawks, foreword, introduction, illustrated, frontispiece (decorated pipe tomahawk), drawings, plates, photographs, appendix, bibliography, captions to photographs. Describes 314 examples with photographs, drawings, figures and portraits. Plus footnotes, directory of makers and dealers, and index to provenience. The appendix provides The Blacksmith Shop which rounds out the more personal relationship of the blacksmith with his Indian customers. Mr. Chandler, who grew up in Indiana when it was still part of the Frontier, saw smiths turn out tomahawks for the Indian trade. A fascinating and informative book. Fine without dust jacket, as issued.
