About This Item
Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1966. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine in Very Good dust jakcet. 22.5 x 14.5 cm. Octavo. 333pp. Navy blue cloth in dust jacket. Some edgewear and 3 closed tears to the spine of the jacket. The American interests here studied are cultural and religious, and activities in these fields had three major consequences: the establishment of schools which culminated in the Syrian Protestant College, now the American University of Beirut; the printing in Arabic of textbooks and religious literature, chief among which was the American translation of the Bible; and the creation of a substantial native Protestant community.
