First issue of the influential magazine, which Mencken would co-edit for the next 10 years, with various contributions (generally editorials and 'clinical notes', as in this issue). Notable contributors to this premiere offering include Ernest Boyd, James Branch Cabell, Theodore Dreiser (4 of his poems), James Gibbons Huneker ('Huneker on Huneker'), John McClure, Ruth Suckow, and others. Publisher on upper wrapper: Alfred A. Knopf. See Adler, page 143. Small nicks, slight rubbing and browning to wrappers; wrappers detached at spine; slight internal browning and/or foxing to leaves (chiefly to preliminaries and edges, as well as foredges); else a fairly serviceable copy.Few B/w decorations; Advertising Matter.
