First edn., first state of the first Am. illustrated sporting book written by an American. Original quarter calf hardcover binding, marbeled boards, red leather label on spine, binding worn, cracks in the spine & hinges but still together, some foxing & staining to the interior but overall a good copy w/the ads & errata p. All protected by an inner cloth chemise in a brown cloth slipcase w/red leather label on the spine. The rest of the title: ".comprising, such plain & simple rules, as are necessary to introduce the inexperienced into full knowledge of all that relates to the dog, and the correct use of the gun; also a description of the game of this country. Front cover loose but not off.
