Paperbound with unprinted covers, heavy french-fold dust jacket with titles and decorations printed in blue and black. Title page and chapter heads printed in blue and black. With index. Colophon states edition limited to 3100, numbers 3001 to 3100 for private distribution (fuera de comercio,) this copy stamped number 3138 [?] Jacket edges rubbed and discreetly repaired with transparent tape, covers a bit soiled, endpapers and edges moderately foxed, top edge soiled, light foxing to several leaves. Former owner Dora Isella Russell fountain pen signature on title page dated 5/XII/1944. Photo opposite p. 222 inscribed to Russell by Alfredo L. Palacios, dated Dec 1944 in Montevideo. Colored pencil underlined mentions of Palacios and several Uruguayans. Withal, a well-preserved copy. "Not an autobiography" of the Argentinian novelist, critic and historian. This is an account of the first ten years of his literary life as if seen by a spectator. With chapters on Paul Groussac, José Ingenieros, Angel de Estrada, Roberto Payró, Rubén Dario, Horacio Quiroga, David Peña, Enrique García Velloso, etc.

Russell (1925-1990) was an Uruguayan poet, disciple of and secretary to Juana de Ibarbourou, and journalist at El Día of Montevideo.
